Dru Johnston, b. 1984

Dru Johnston is a writer, actor and improviser currently living in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from Issaquah, WA he graduated college from Whitman College in 2007 with a prestigious degree in Theatre Arts, ready to take the world by storm. Then he ran out of money.

He has studied and performed improv at both the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and the Magnet Theatre in New York. His sketch group, The New Deal, create short comedic videos and perform live sketch shows around New York. Their latest, The New Deal Presents: A False Sense of Social Security was called “…impressive,” (hyreviews.com) “…energy-charged,” (hyreviews.com) and “taught us that lettuce violently explodes when it is punched” (The Apiary).

Many think he’s crazy for embarking on this blog project. He’s remarkably grounded. He also loves Peanut M&Ms and throughout high school worked at Cold Stone Creamery. He now works for Twistage, delivering online video to the masses.

  1. Hi Dru,

Ella Johnston (I assume she’s your mom) emailed me the other day about your project and about the NY Post article. She thought writing a feature story about you might be fun, and I agreed. Would you like to chat sometime about your life and the current project? I’m with the Sammamish Review and Issaquah Press and since you’re from Skyline High, a lot of people will be interested in reading about you.

    What do you think?
