And just like that it’s done. This is going to be my new blog that I keep updating. Hopefully it won’t be as hard to follow as The Year of the Blog… but it’s my new venue to post my thoughts about the starbucks barista’s I’m irritated by, the short stories I write, and any information on upcoming videos and projects.

But for now the blog has got info on a few upcoming things, and a post-mortem on my thoughts from this project.

I was trying to figure out how to finish this guy on the train one day and I saw in the book I was reading the Acknowledgments section. Of course. The number of people I need to thank is countless, but I wanted to at least let a few of them know that I’m eternally grateful.

Okay, so before I began the Year of the Blog I wanted to start a blog called The Cosmological Principles which was a blog about cosmology and problems in Astronomy, but written by a self-righteous jerk. Instead I’ve made a few blogs by [Dr.] Dru Johnston, essentially the same character, for this project. And I’m writing another one by him.

But this one is very very extensive. I’ve wanted to make this blog for the last year, but it was such a Moby Dick for me in that it was something I wanted to make sure was as extensive as I could. But with three blogs left, I figured I HAD to do it today.

This is based off of my final project for Astro 110 at Whitman, I presented this information the week before I graduated, probably with a more serious attitude than I used when writing my paper on Henry James for English… that’s how much I love this question about the Millennium Falcon.

So read and either get very confused or completely nerded out. But probably start at the bottom and work your way up… it’s a lot easier to follow that way.

I’ve had a lot of people (read: two) come up to me and say: “Hey Dru. You say you’re going to make a blog about every state in the union except Ohio. What’s your beef with Ohio man? What better way to celebrate the day that celebrated cop outs by making an even worse cop out blog than I’ve ever made before, purely examining other cop out blogs that I’ve made over the past year? I don’t think there is a way to do that. It’s not even a rhyme, that’s how much of a cop out this is.

Well… there’s exactly one week left… so I thought I’d bring back my good friend Ryan for one more blog because I enjoy these Flat Stanley blogs a lot. Also, I’ve been reading Kurt Vonnegut recently and as you will see this blog is pretty heavily influenced by that. Time to start closing up some loose ends guys!

So Alex is coming through with a guest blog this weekend while I get ready for my final push next week. The New Deal weekend is in full force (except Noah said he might not do one tomorrow… BUT IT’S STILL IN FULL FORCE!). And Alex, a Boston native himself, decided to grace the internets with his presence as a Boston Masshole showing pictures of Boston and then talking to you about them. He has gone above and beyond the call of duty… two full pages!

I met Alex a little over two years ago. He is a brilliant friend, an amazingly funny and gifted improviser, but probably more importantly he introduced me to my favorite Sushi restaurant in the city… which for any friend of mine puts you above the rest. I love sushi. Anyway, Alex is in my comedy group The New Deal, and we’ve spent countless hours together, but possibly the highlight on stage was earlier this week when the two of us (Noah was sick) got together for a Chekhov festival and presented to the audience a 50 minute improvised Chekhov play that involved a general who hated birch trees, an artist that was running out of money, around 7 servants all named Nina in some way, a young woman waiting for her love to return, a drunk uncle and a jewish grandfather for some reason. Doing that patient, and ultimately very rewarding, show with Alex was one of the most fun pieces I’ve gotten to do on stage. And I won’t forget the look on his face when I muddied the whole thing up and made him a third servant… looked like he was going to either kill me or break down laughing. It’s these Alex moments that I look back and cherish. A great friend both on and off the stage.

I make a few charts, graphs and analysis of a single day in Ebert’s twitter history. March 31st, 2010. It’s even more insane than I thought it was…
